Speedmaster First 0MEGA in Space | Special EDITION

On October 3rd1962the Speedmaster CK 2998 became the first OMEGA worn in spacewhen the astronaut Walter Schirra wore his personal model on the Sigma 7 mission of the Mercury programme. This updated version is a tribute to that pioneering timepiece and captures the same 2nd generation Speedmaster style in modern form. The 39.70 mm case is crafted in polished and brushed stainless steel and features a “flat links” bracelet with OMEGA’s patented comfort release adjustment system. The bezel ring is presented in black aluminium and includes the legendary tachymeter scale with an emblematic “Dot Over Ninety”. Beneath the brand new hesalite-like form sapphire crystalthe grey-blue dial is CVD coatedto replicate the tone of some CK 2998 watches produced in the 1960s. Along with indexes and hour/minute “Alpha” hands that are filled with vintage Super-LumiNovathe central seconds “Baton” hand is white varnished to match the transferred markings. Subdials include a 30-minute recorder at 3Ha 12-hour recorder at 6Hand a small-seconds display at 9H. A vintage OMEGA logo is applied on the dialas well as on the crownwhile the caseback features the famous Seahorse medallionand the engravings“THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and “OCTOBER 31962”. The watch is driven by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861which is the most up-to-date version of the Calibre 321 worn by astronauts in space. Each watch is delivered inside a special presentation box with a “LEGENDARY MOONWATCH” leaflet inside.
